Editorial & Information Standards
Herewise exists to make it easier to find mental health and emotional wellbeing support.
We aim to provide information that is clear, useful, accurate and easy to understand. This page explains how information on Herewise is created, reviewed and maintained.
Our role
Herewise is a signposting and information service.
We help people discover charities, helplines, community organisations and other sources of support. Herewise does not diagnose health conditions, recommend treatments, prescribe medication or replace advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
If you are worried about your health, you should speak to an appropriate healthcare professional.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or 112.
How we choose our sources
When Herewise publishes information about mental health, wellbeing or health-related topics, we prioritise established and reputable sources.
These may include:
- NHS services and NHS guidance
- NICE guidance
- UK and Irish government health services
- recognised national charities
- specialist support organisations
- established professional or clinical bodies
Where appropriate, links to key sources are included on the page.
We avoid presenting unsupported claims, personal opinion or promotional material as established health information.
How information is written
Information is written to be:
- clear and understandable
- respectful and inclusive
- practical rather than alarmist
- appropriate for people who may be experiencing distress
- accessible to as wide an audience as possible
We aim to distinguish clearly between factual health information, general guidance and signposting to third-party services.
Reviewing our information
Health and support information can change.
Pages containing substantive health or wellbeing information should display:
- Published
- The date the information was first published
- Last reviewed
- The most recent review date
- Next review due
- When the information is expected to be reviewed again
Information may be reviewed earlier where:
- official guidance changes
- a service changes or closes
- contact information becomes outdated
- someone reports an issue
- we identify information that may no longer be accurate
Corrections
We welcome corrections.
If you notice information that is inaccurate, outdated, unclear or potentially unsafe, please let us know.
Reports are reviewed and, where appropriate, the information will be corrected or removed.
You can contact us at hello@herewise.org.
Independence
An organisation being listed on Herewise does not mean that Herewise endorses every service, treatment, opinion or activity provided by that organisation.
Likewise, inclusion should not be interpreted as clinical accreditation.
Herewise aims to provide impartial signposting and does not allow payment to determine whether an organisation is presented as more clinically appropriate than another.
Organisations listed on Herewise
Where possible, we check core information about an organisation before publishing or approving a listing.
However, Herewise does not independently inspect organisations, audit their clinical practice or guarantee the quality of every service they provide.
People should consider whether a service is suitable for their circumstances and seek professional advice where appropriate.
Accessibility and inclusion
We want Herewise to work for as many people as possible.
We aim to use accessible language, clear navigation and inclusive terminology, and to consider accessibility throughout the design and review of the service.
If something on Herewise is difficult to access or understand, please tell us.
Our commitment
Trust matters when people are looking for support.
We will continue to review how Herewise creates, checks and presents information and will update these standards as the service develops.
